About
I obtained the OrwellianTimes.com domain on January 7, 2021, the day after the pro-Trump rally in Washington D.C. devolved into a shocking breach of the US Capitol. By the following day, this rally-turned demonstration-turned riot had been branded an “insurrection”, and thousands of conservative voices had been cancelled/silenced on social media. Fearing that the tech giants, who control the digital public square and had already exercised unprecedented censorship during the COVID-19 pandemic, might soon silence all dissenting voices, I reserved my own spot on the internet to ensure my ability to exercise free speech, if needed.
Before that date, it was becoming apparent that social media companies were using algorithms to reduce the visibility of content dissenting from the official narrative, be it on COVID, election integrity, or anything else. However, this date marked a paradigm shift, when their power was used to instantly de-platform thousands of influential individuals on the basis of their political views. Even Parler, the fledgling conservative competitor to Twitter, was taken down completely by Amazon, whose servers hosted it. Only progressive political voices and their mainstream media allies were acceptable and unhindered. After the abuses of power and control over citizens’ lives that had emerged during the pandemic, it became clear that the United States had descended into the kind of dystopia that George Orwell had warned about in his seminal work, 1984. There was no discussion at all about whether the events of the previous day did in fact constitute an insurrection. As soon as one opportunist political operative labeled it with the inflammatory term, it spread like wildfire. Initially seeded in whispers, it soon grew into a unanimous and deafening chant of “insurrection, insurrection!” from every “official” or “respectable” source. President Donald Trump, or rather the media’s characterization of him, had become Goldstein, 1984‘s imaginary enemy of the state, against whom all anger, hate and frustration could be directed.
I had been listening to live reporting throughout the events of January 6, and I came to my own very different conclusion about what had really happened, and why. With dissenting voices pushed out of the online public square, and mainstream media parroting delusionary propaganda, I did manage to find some voices of reason and well-informed dissenting views online, outside the mainstream. My aim for this website is to direct other free thinkers, who are fed up with authoritarian control of the public narrative, towards sources I have found to be reliable, informative (dare I say “eye opening”), and even humorous with it.
